Our Game Changer

What??? A post that is not going to revolve around my kids.... that is unheard of! Correct... unheard of. However, I just have to write out the changes that have happened in the Rector family to remember how our world has just been rocked over the course of this summer. Rewind to October 2011.... I had my last wedding with DFW Events, where I had worked for almost four years. But knowing that Baby #2 was about to make their entrance, BJ and I both felt like it was time for me to transition home... a dream come true for both of us. We were COMPLETELY walking by faith on this one... BJ was in a sales job (fully commissioned) and there really was no guarantee of his salary.... but after praying over it for the duration of my pregnancy, we both felt like the Lord was calling me to stay home and so we would trust that He ALONE is our provider, not BJ.

Maybe five minutes after Tripper boy was born, (not really, but you get the idea) BJ scheduled some networking coffee meetings with individuals as he was wanting to just see what was out there in corporate America that would fit his giftings.... who would have thought that one of those coffee dates would turn into a job offer at an amazing global company that provided him a salary WITHIN DOLLARS matching what BJ and I brought in jointly when I was working.... you think that God is in the details?!?! YEP. So humbled again at how God provides.... and overwhelmed by the blessing that this job would be for BJ, for me and the kids, as we continued to walk by faith.

Fast forward to June / July 2011.... BJ has learned so much, grown so much, stepped up in some big ways and the Lord is challenging him in this new role. He is doing great, working hard and making this girl proud. I have been home for about 10 months... enjoying it so much and really still very humbled that the Lord has not only given us two healthy kids, but He has provided a way for me be their primary caregiver during each day.  I just know there are many days that I take that for granted... oh Lord, extend me grace. In a silly way, all my childhood dreams just came true in that I stay home raising my kids... God gave me that, my husband selflessly gives me that.

So, the game changer.... about 3 months ago I finally mustered up the courage to ask one of my sorority sisters what in the world she was up to seeing as her Facebook was frequently (yet, not annoyingly) updating with information about Rodan + Fields.... what in the world was Rodan + Fields? I am glad that I asked. She had been representing the line since right around the time that Tripp was born (8 months at the time).... and actually started while working in a PR position for a local hospital, having one little and being pregnant with her second. She told me how being part of this company has been one of the biggest blessings to her, to her family and how she was able to actually "retire" from her full-time career to represent Rodan + Fields in part-time hours. But, I wasn't looking for anything, so I listened and was just genuinely excited for her.... then, she told me about the product....

Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields are the doctors that created Proactiv (who hasn't heard of that?) and what they have done for acne they are now doing for aging and sun-damaged skin! It is a clinical skin-care line that used to be sold in retailers (was #1 clinical line in Nordstrom) but they recently brought it to direct sales. Their approach to direct sales is awesome - we are not required to host parties, we do not store product, beauty editors cannot stop talking about the products and well now, neither can I.  BJ and I listened to all that she had to share, prayed about it, brought the information to our parents for their wisdom, prayed some more and JUMPED IN. We both thought, what is there to lose? The company has a 60-day consultant "trial" period, so if I started to find that it wasn't for me, I could essentially opt out without having lost a thing.

The other issue was that I have always struggled with severe eczema so knowing that I wanted to represent a skin care line made me a little nervous... I mean, I am a walking billboard. Here is what has been, honestly, so awesome... for as long as I can remember, I have always had to use some kind of steroid on my skin to prevent / treat my eczema flare-ups. Well, Rodan + Fields carries the perfect line for me, too.... I have been using the SOOTHE regimen and its rocking my world. No steroids since June.... and no flare-ups, either. NO JOKE.

So, why is this a game-changer? Here is the deal.... I am a stay at home mom. Period. BJ and I cannot negate how the Lord provided above and beyond for us so that I could be home with our kids. That will always trump. But now, I also represent Rodan + Fields.... and I fit it into part-time hours around my real life. Eleanor and Tripp have no clue that I work - because I make a point not to be "working" when they are awake.... so my hours are during nap time and maybe 1-2 nights a week. What do I consider work??? Using my network to spread the word about this incredible company.... and I do that by telling my story honestly, sharing with friends and not shying away from explaining how exciting this company has been. It has been awesome for the Rector family.... literally such a blessing. I am really, really humbled that this opportunity crossed my path when it did - I know in direct sales that timing is everything.... and there is NO better time than now. Is it for everyone? No... but could it be for anyone? Absolutely.

When I started in July, I figured if I could add anything to our bottom line, it was bonus. I mean, I was bringing nothing in.... and well, it didn't take long for me to realize that my goal of paying our mortgage by the end of my first full year in the business is not only attainable, but passable.  So now, I am dreaming even bigger... BJ and I have a heart for the gospel - we have never been able to give at the capacity that we wish and can't wait to see how that changes. We desire to live fully debt-free.... and do in our daily life, but aim to stay that way as our family grows, cars break, etc..... and the list goes on. I am dreaming big because I know it isn't just a crazy dream... I am being personally trained by others in the business that in a short time have changed the course of their families lives, forever. Why not us, too?!

I may have about 4 people that read this blog.... and you may not have read this little entry. But if you did and want to know any more about why I love Rodan + Fields and how it is literally changing our lives, I would love to share. All I know is that this opportunity is nothing shy of a blessing to us.... if it could be for you, that would bring me great joy.

Rector 2.0

So, on April 2, 2011, I woke up to this... I immediately showed Eleanor to confirm... "Momma, are you kidding me??!!" So, we held off telling our families until Easter and had a great plan to reveal Eleanor as the BIG SISTER at the dinner table... we didn't think about that lunch was right after her nap, so she was a little groggy and looks unhappy, but we couldn't keep it anymore.... So a few days later we tried to take some pictures again to prove that Eleanor is VERY excited! We can't wait to meet you, Baby Rector #2!! As of now, we look forward to November 22nd when you will enter this world... (you are due December 1, but because I will have a C-section, you birthday is currently scheduled for November 22!)... but we are SO thankful to the Lord for your life as you grow inside of Momma right now and we are praying FERVENTLY for you... same as we did for your precious, big sister... healthy baby, who chooses Jesus at an early age and never once doubts that Mom...

Just Mauied...

So... in the spirit of the final blog about our wedding - it is time we move on to more important things for the blogger world hear about - it is only fair that we share some of our amazing honeymoon! Us, and about 5 other honeymooning couples on AA Flight 6 on October 12, 2008, journey to the honeymoon capital of the world -- MAUI!! One of the things I regret most is not taking up Mindy's offer and bring along her legit camera - we really did a bad job at capturing the best vacation ever, but we'll remember.... It all started here - the most magical sendoff I could ever imagine for my wedding.... and there we go... off to start life together as Mr. and Mrs. William Rector...! Dum Di Dum Dum....the next day (check out my awesome ratted hair) We had to get up at 7am to catch our flight - note: this is NOT recommended for anyone getting married-- either leave after noon or the Monday... wow that was rough! On-board AA Flight 6 direct to Maui! BJ and I cruising to our hotel in o...

ALOOOOHA....

T hat's right friends - we are packing our bags and taking a little BABYMOON next month. BJ surprised me last week and had this little ditty all worked out... ...In fact I did work out all the details, only to rework them a week later after the final go-ahead from Karen. Her rationale was appreciated and wise, albeit not well recieved at first. I called her the fun-killer. Ironic I know... "I'm a fun girl!" her famous self proclamation. (this portion written by BJ) N ot going to lie - when BJ first told me about this trip I was a little stressed (it's the planner and realist in me)... I mean, our life is crazy - and obviously finances are about to go haywire when we get into our new house and bring baby home... but as a good reminder, I have been brought back down to earth in realizing that there will ALWAYS be an excuse, we have more freedom now then we probably will ever again and God has ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS been our Faithful provider... we have the funds, so i...
