Tripp :: Seven Months Old

I have a million posts that are still in "draft" form because I have so many updates about your little life, Tripper. Now, if I only had the time (read: energy) to actually finish them it would be amazing. Yet here we are again, another month flown by at the speed of light.... and I gulp as I admit we are on the second half of your first year of life. I literally just had tears well to my eyes as I wrote that.... how unbelievable, seven months already passed?!?! This past month was definitely one of our hardest, to date, but now looking back I can't help but agree with the age-old, popular saying that "the days are long but the years are short". Too short. Tripper boy, you are my favorite little boy in the whole wide world.
Your routine is FINALLY awesome.... only took half of the year, but boy it felt like an eternity to get straight. Now, it is like clock-work. Up at 7:00-7:15, nap from 9:15-10:45, nap from 1:15-3:00, bed at 7:45pm. Sometimes you sneak in a cat-nap around 5pm or so if we are on-the-go and sometimes you take your morning nap on the road because we are out and about early. But FINALLY, naps are happening at a more consistent level. PRAISE HIM.
Unfortunately, you have now had three ear infections in your short seven months... what does this mean? Well, you have probably just been in a lot of pain and THAT is why naps have been so rough. Does it make us feel awful? Absolutely. Are you on meds now? Yep. Are tubes in our future? Probably. Baby boy, we just want you to feel good!
You nurse four times a day at 7:15am, 11am, 3pm and 7pm. You eat solids after your 11am feed and before your 7pm feed. You LOVE yourself some veggies (hooray!).... you have yet to meet a food that you do not like, but I am proud to say that currently veggies are your favorite! YES! You eat about 3-4 of the large containers of food each day.... big boy! You have also started to chew on Mum-Mums and Puffs.... the perfect activity for us while we try to eat dinner!
Speaking of eating, you have transitioned to the high chair when we are out to eat... you LOVE it. You sit there and look around, eat your snacks or food and thoroughly enjoy being out - so much better than having you try to "sleep" in the carseat while we crammed food down our throats. Now the four of us can go enjoy eating together (and actually enjoy it!).
You are still wearing size 6-12 month clothes and size 3 diapers.
You are mobile! Are you walking? No. Are you crawling? No. Are you scooching? No. You are a roller.... as in, if you want to get somewhere you will roll back and forth until you get to the toy, person or whatever you are hunting. Your favorite things to hunt for are the wipes, diapers, Donald Duck or really any of Eleanor's toys that she has lying around. I try to help you get into the crawl position when you are on your tummy, but instead you immediately start twisting to roll. Oh well.
You love to stand... so far, you only stand when you are on our laps or if we are really supporting you, but yesterday you held onto the chair and just laughed and laughed when I stood you up. You pull up on us, but not on anything else yet.
You are a hair-grabber.... like, you have pulled mine out by the handfuls and accidentally pulled some of E's too. You pull it and it goes STRAIGHT to your mouth. Everything is going straight to your mouth, but I don't think you are teething yet.
We had a family playdate with the Glenns and the Alexanders.... you, Chapel and Caleb are all within 3 weeks of one another! So so fun!!
You haven't had any form of "stranger-danger" yet, but you are definitely your Momma's boy. If I am in the room you basically want me to gaze into your eyes... if I look away for a moment you can get really sad... it is pathetic, but it is hilarious.
You went swimming for the first time on Memorial day with your grandpa and your paw-paw... you were NOT a fan.
You have started "talking" up a storm.... most of the time, you let out these unbelievably LOUD and drawn out grunts that literally make people turn their heads. Sometimes, we hear sweet coos that are starting to make sounds like "baa" or "maa"... nothing official, obviously!
You LOVE making raspberries with your lips. You have showered us in tons of slobber and sometimes we get the shower of whatever you are eating because you LOVE love love to blow bubbles.
You have the most infectious laugh I have ever heard... you laugh HARD at Eleanor, when being tickled, when we sing a Tripper song or when you are jumping / bouncing on our laps. You LOVE to laugh and it is music to our ears :).
You had some of your last "local" moments with Charlie... your little cousin (oh ya, Benny and Kristen, too) are moving to Portland this week. We are so sad to see them go, but I know you and Charlie will love visiting each other throughout the year(s) growing up.
Anything Eleanor is your favorite. She is your favorite girl in the whole wide world and I am pretty sure the feeling is mutual. You spend most of your days cuddling, rolling over together (hilarious) or she completely clobbering you with kisses and hugs. You play so well together, already, and we are continuing to pray that you would be the best of friends.
Buddy boy (as Eleanor calls you), when you put your arms around my neck I can think of nowhere else in the world I would rather be. You are a snuggler and it is just melting my heart into a big ball of sappy goodness.... you have made our home so happy, so completely crazy, so funny, so meaningful.... we can't wait to see the man you grow to be. May the precious, tender traits you have now carry you through as you become a strong, brave leader of men. We love you, Tripper boy.

Jackson Hole Rector Family Favorites

We love to travel - honestly, can never get enough of it and hope to see so much of this big ole' world in this lifetime. Because we are not professional travelers (but like, can I sign up for that?) we have limited time and resources just like most people do. I LOVE to explore new places - cities, countries, cultures and we need to get to it if we want to even scratch the surface of globe trotting. There are, however, a few places that continue to call us back over and over again.... one, Hawaii: another post for another time, but we have been so fortunate to go almost annually with BJ's parents since I met and married him. What a gift we will never take for granted! We have so many fun memories, moments and suggestions for Maui and Kauai, but that I'll save that for another day. two, Jackson Hole: our very favorite summer destination. I cannot imagine growing tired of the Grand Tetons and this little spot of the country is our dose of heaven on earth. We've traveled a...

Where'd You Go, Bernadette?

THE OVER-SHARER SHARES AGAIN   For the very small handful of people who have asked, I’m answering to the masses (err, bigger handful). On February 1, I decided to take a social media fast. Our church was challenging us to a 21-day fast and I chose to fast not from food but from something else I had been looking to for satisfaction, delight or distraction. Here we are at the beginning of summer, and with the exception of popping on to facebook to check in with my business partners, I have found great freedom stepping away from social media (right now). Currently, I don’t have a plan to return, but I also know that I should never say never…. …Watch me pop right back in and eat crow in mere moments if I was to say I would be off of it forever. Honestly, social media has been a beautiful thing for me personally, and professionally, for well over a decade. It has allowed me to authentically and organically share my passions, ask my questions, get and give referrals, build and reconn...

12 years later.

Tonight, 12 years ago, I enrolled as a Rodan + Fields consultant. I’ve shared so many times about my journey and how I am still taken by surprise for that level of bravery to embark on a professional journey I was so scared to do. Today, on what should be the celebration of my Rodanniversary, has instead turned out to be one of the most surreal, painful, and grief-filled moments of my entire life. The Rector’s livelihood was taken away in an instant with a restructuring of R+F’s business model… I woke up today having no clue I would be receiving this news and am finishing the day pinching myself to see if I am really and truly experiencing this nightmare.  I have one million thoughts and none at all at the exact same time. Tonight, after processing the reality for myself and with BJ, we chose to sit Eleanor and Tripp down to have the impossible conversation with them - one we genuinely never dreamed could ever come about. And I never want to forget what we talked about around our d...
